1)  Qualifying period of Consolidated/Consolidated Line School District Trustees:  Begin Qualifying Wednesday, August 8, 2018; qualifying deadline, Friday, September 7, 2018

2) Qualifactions are:  "A bona fide resident and qualified elector (registered voter) of the district in which election is sought, and have a high school diploma or its equivalent."  (Miss. Const. of 1890, Art XII, Section 250; Miss. Code Ann.  Sections 37-7-201, 37-7-306)  Upon election, each school board member shall be required to complete a basic course of training and education for local school board members conducted by the Mississippi School Boards Association within six (6) months of his/her selection.  In addition, each school board member shall be required to file annually in the office of the school board a certificate of completion of a course of continuing education conducted by the Mississippi School Boards Association.  (Miss. Code Ann. Section 37-7-306.)

3)  To qualify:  All candidates must file a Statement of Intent and petition containing the signatures of not less than fifty (50) qualified electors of the district with the Circuit Clerk.  No qualifying fee is paid.  These forms are attached.  The Qualifying Statement of Intent MUST be completed, signed and dated.  The top portion (in the block) of the Candidate Petition must be completed of each page submitted.  Each page has space for ten (10) signatures.  It requires "signature, address, printed name, and precinct."  Even though only fifty (50) signatures are required, I always suggest that AT LEAST ten (10) additional signatures are obtained.  Some individuals will sign the petition who are not registered voters or who are not registered voters in the proper district.  ALSO, this petition must be submitted to the Circuit Clerk's office in sufficient time for all signatures to be certified.  This is a time consuming thing and, if several petitions are submitted, could take several days.

Forms are online at http://www.winonamontgomerycsd.com/ or you can pick them up in the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk's office Monday-Friday 8a.m.-5p.m.
